European Master in Children’s Rights |
Children have rights…Yet unfortunately, many children all over the world do not have access to them. Therefore, the Free University in Berlin is offering the study programme “European Master in Children’s Rights” for the first time starting in October 2007.
The interdisciplinary, advanced Master programme is addressed to all students and employees who want to contribute to the implementation of children’s rights, be it in the field of development cooperation, in child and youth welfare services, schools, the media, legal services or health care. Over a one-year period, 25 students from all over the world will learn how to critically deal with children’s rights.
Subject of the programme are both theoretical discussions on the meaning of children rights, their development and legal foundation, as well as analyses of practical challenges for the implementation of children’s rights in different international contexts in order to do justice to their universal claim.
This qualification programme, which up to now is unique in Europe, is supported by the DG Education and Culture of the European Commission, and Save the Children, Sweden. The study programme offers students not only the opportunity to stay and study in different European countries at the partner universities, e.g. the Institute of Education at the University of London, Stockholm’s Universiteit or Universitatea Babes-Bolyai, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, but also provides the opportunity for concrete practical insight during an internship or research period in institutions or organisations dealing with children’s and human rights.
Conditions for a successful application are:
completed vocational qualification- academic degree- in a subject relevant for the study programme (Social sciences, education, law, etc.),
very good English language skills.
Applications for the WS 2007/08 are accepted until June, 30th (for EU citizens) or May 31st (for non EU citizens).
